How to use Knitting gauge calculator
  1. Enter the measured inputs and select their units.
  2. Review the calculated dimensions, counts and rounding.
  3. Download the result and verify it against a sample before making the full project.

Useful next steps

Measure the stitch pattern you will use

Enter the stitches and rows counted within a measured swatch area. Use a prepared, relaxed swatch made in the stitch pattern for your project. Width gauge and row gauge are calculated independently.

Choose usable whole counts

Twenty stitches and 28 rows across a 10 × 10 cm swatch give 100 stitches and 168 rows for 50 × 60 cm. When the proportions do not give whole counts, choose nearest, round up or round down and compare the achieved dimensions.

Save the calculation

Download a CSV of the results or instructions, a readable text report and a JSON report with values, formulas and assumptions. Calculations run locally on your device. Unit changes keep the numbers already entered, so check the selected units before using the result.
