Cross-stitch thread estimator
Estimate whole skeins for one color using stitch count, a measured thread sample and explicit strand assumptions.
Up to 100 million design stitches, 100 working or skein strands and 200% allowance. Whole skeins are capped at 1 million. This uses your measured sample, not a universal stitch-consumption rate. Change the input or settings to update your result. Results update as you type. Up to 1,000,000 characters.

Useful next steps
Measure one strand of a sample
Stitch a sample using the fabric, stitch style and working strand count planned for the design. Enter how much length of one strand was consumed, not the summed length of every strand. Keep tails and travel consistent with your chosen allowance.
Convert single strands back to skeins
An 8 m skein with six separable strands contains 48 m of single-strand thread. A requirement of 360 m therefore uses 7.5 such skeins and rounds up to eight. Estimate each color separately; leftovers from one color do not cover another.
Save the plan
Download the result as CSV, plus a text or JSON report with formulas, values and assumptions. Everything is calculated on your device. Changing units keeps the entered numbers, so check the selected units before using the plan.
