How Wheel spinner and random name picker works
Type 2 to 50 names or choices, one per line, and spin to pick one at random. The winner is chosen first with your browser's cryptographic random source, giving every entry on the list the same chance, and the wheel then animates to that result. Duplicate removal is on by default, so an exact repeat counts once. Turn it off and each repeated line becomes its own slice, which gives that choice extra chances. Each entry can be up to 80 characters, and the list stays in your browser.
Before you start
Put each choice on its own line and check for accidental repeats or near duplicates, since duplicate removal only matches identical text. Keep entries to 80 characters or less.
A worked example
With Ada, Sam, Jo and Alex on four lines, each name has a 1 in 4 chance; one test spin selected Sam. Entering A, A and B with duplicate removal off picked A about two thirds of the time over 9,000 spins.
How to use it
Enter 2 to 50 names or choices, one per line, then spin. The selected result is shown as text as well as on the wheel. Each included entry has an equal chance.
A worked example
Enter Ada, Sam, Jo and Alex on separate lines to choose one at random. With duplicate removal on, entering Ada twice still gives Ada one entry.

Common questions
Is the wheel spinner truly random?
The result comes from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and the code rejects values that would bias the pick, so each included entry has an equal chance. The spin animation does not decide anything. It simply rotates to the entry that was already selected and shows it as text too.
How do I give one name more chances?
Turn off Remove duplicate entries, then list that name more than once. Each line becomes its own slice, so a name entered twice in a list of three lines has a 2 in 3 chance. With duplicate removal on, identical lines are merged and count once.
Why are Ada and ada both on my wheel?
Duplicate removal compares entries as exact text after trimming spaces at the ends of each line. Different capitalization or spelling counts as a different entry, so Ada and ada are both kept. Fix the spelling in your list if they are meant to be the same person.
How many names can I put on the wheel?
You need at least 2 entries and can use up to 50, with at most 80 characters per entry. Names are written on the slices when the wheel has 16 entries or fewer, shortened if they are long. With more entries the slices are unlabeled, but the selected name always appears as text.
Does the wheel remove the winner after a spin?
No. Every spin draws from the full list you entered, so the same name can win again. If you want each person picked only once, delete the winner's line from the list before you spin again.
