How to use Moving volume calculator
  1. Enter one item per line: item, room, length, width, height, then optional quantity and weight per item.
  2. Choose the dimension and weight units used in your list.
  3. Set a packing allowance for the space lost between irregular items.
  4. Review the totals and room table, then download the inventory and room CSV files.

Useful next steps

Measure each item as a box

Each item counts as a box of its outer length, width and height, multiplied by its quantity. A 210 × 90 × 85 cm sofa takes 1.6065 m³. Measure legs, handles and cushions at their widest points.

Add a packing allowance

Irregular items leave gaps when loaded, so the total adds your packing allowance to the summed item volume. For the example list, 6.8535 m³ of items plus 10% is 7.53885 m³, about 266 ft³. The allowance is your assumption, not a mover loading factor.

Weights and rooms

Weights are optional and entered per item. Items without a weight are left out of the weight total, and the report says so. Rooms are listed in the order they first appear.

Limits

Up to 500 items and 100,000 characters, each dimension up to 100 m and quantity up to 1,000. Unit conversions use NIST SP 811 factors (checked 16 October 2026). The result is an inventory for quotes, not a mover quote or a promise that a vehicle will hold the load.
