What counts as a character?
The main character count measures visible character groups, including emoji sequences and accented letters. Code points and UTF-8 bytes are also shown because different systems measure text differently.
A useful distinction
Spaces and line breaks count as characters. Words use English word segmentation. Reading time is an estimate at 200 words per minute.
How to use Character counter
- Enter your text in the input field.
- The result updates as you type. Adjust the available settings if needed.
- Read the counts above your text. Copy text copies the original text, not the statistics.
What to expect
Count visible characters, words, lines and UTF-8 bytes. Visible characters use Unicode grapheme clusters, so a combined emoji can count as one. Code points and bytes are separate measures. Check which measure your destination requires.
