## Tool capabilities

| Property | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Tool ID | `stl-viewer` |
| Category | maker-tools |
| Implementation | Registered implementation. Registration alone is not a production-quality guarantee. |
| Browser execution | Use the visible action or interactive controls. |
| Browser processing | Browser; see tool notes for network behavior. |
| HTTP API | Not callable through HTTP. |
| Browser-agent interface | run_current_tool |

### Implementation notes

Formats do not reliably encode units. Unit selection labels dimensions without rescaling. Mesh conversion does not repair geometry or preserve OBJ materials.

### Inputs and settings

No free-text input is required. Use the file inputs and/or settings below.

Accepted browser files: `.stl`. Choose one file.

| Setting | Meaning | Control type | Default | Constraints |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `units` | Model units | select | "mm" | Allowed: mm, cm, m, in |

### Browser-agent workflow

1. Open the human page in a browser that supports WebMCP.
2. Discover the interface exposed by that page; use its actual schema.
3. Select files on the page first when the tool requires files.
4. Call `run_current_tool` with valid input and settings.
5. Inspect the returned result or error and the displayed output. Retrieve files from the displayed download links.

Calls do not automatically copy or download results. Browser permissions still apply. Interface availability alone is not proof of successful execution.

### Planning specification

Local mesh rendering, dimensions with chosen units and memory limits.

This describes intended requirements. Use the implementation notes, interface schema and observed output to determine current support.

## How to use STL viewer

1. Choose a file in STL.
2. Review the settings, then choose Run STL viewer.
3. Review the result, then use Copy result or a download link when available.

## Working with stl viewer

Maker utilities prepare models and dimensions for another application or machine. File conversion is only part of the workflow: scale, orientation and geometry can affect whether the result is usable.

## Common questions

### Can a model look correct and still fail to print?

Yes. Open surfaces, thin walls, overlapping geometry and unsupported features can cause problems that are not obvious from one view.

### Does converting a mesh add detail?

No. A conversion does not recover geometry that was absent from the original. Check whether materials, textures and scene information are supported by the destination format.
