## Tool capabilities

| Property | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Tool ID | `iban-checker` |
| Category | data-tools |
| Implementation | Registered implementation. Registration alone is not a production-quality guarantee. |
| Browser execution | Automatic updates after valid input or file selection. |
| Browser processing | Browser; see tool notes for network behavior. |
| HTTP API | Not callable through HTTP. |
| Browser-agent interface | run_current_tool |

### Implementation notes

Paste one IBAN. Spaces, tabs, line breaks and nonbreaking spaces are accepted; lowercase ASCII letters are normalized. No bank is contacted. The report shows only the country and final four account characters. Uses Swift registry release 103 (September 2026), covering 89 country formats. Checks national format and the IBAN checksum only. Bank, branch, national account check digits, ownership and account existence are not verified. Everything runs on your device.

### Inputs and settings

Text input: IBAN.

Example or placeholder shown in the interface (not a validated fixture):

```text
GB82 WEST 1234 5698 7654 32
```

Paste one IBAN. This public example comes from the Swift registry. Country format and checksum only; no bank is contacted. Results update as you type. Up to 128 characters.

No additional settings are declared for this tool.

### Browser-agent workflow

1. Open the human page in a browser that supports WebMCP.
2. Discover the interface exposed by that page; use its actual schema.
3. Select files on the page first when the tool requires files.
4. Call `run_current_tool` with valid input and settings.
5. Inspect the returned result or error and the displayed output. Retrieve files from the displayed download links.

Calls do not automatically copy or download results. Browser permissions still apply. Interface availability alone is not proof of successful execution.

### Planning specification

One IBAN, up to 128 input characters and 34 account characters. Covers the 89 national formats in Swift registry release 103. Unknown country prefixes are reported as unsupported. No bank, ownership, account-existence, balance or domestic checksum check is performed.

This describes intended requirements. Use the implementation notes, interface schema and observed output to determine current support.

### How to use IBAN checker

1. Paste one IBAN. Spaces, tabs, line breaks and nonbreaking spaces are accepted.
2. Review the country, required length, national format and checksum results.
3. If a check fails, verify the number with its source. Download the masked report if needed.

## Check the number's format

Paste one IBAN, with or without spaces. Lowercase ASCII letters are accepted. The tool checks the country prefix, expected length, the letter and digit positions in its national format, and the MOD97 checksum. Results explain which check failed instead of treating every error as the same problem.

### Know what a match means

Matching format and check digits can catch common copying mistakes. They do not confirm that a bank, branch or account exists, or that an account belongs to the intended recipient. Country-specific domestic account check digits are outside this checker. A number with a correct global IBAN checksum can still fail a domestic rule.

### Keep the account number on your device

No account lookup is made. Processing stays in this tab, and account strings are not included in tool analytics. The downloaded JSON report keeps the country and final four characters, with the rest masked. Clear the input when finished. The bundled country formats come from Swift IBAN Registry release 103, published in September 2026.
