## Tool capabilities

| Property | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Tool ID | `pipe-weight-calculator` |
| Category | calculators |
| Implementation | Registered implementation. Registration alone is not a production-quality guarantee. |
| Browser execution | Automatic updates after valid input or file selection. |
| Browser processing | Browser; see tool notes for network behavior. |
| HTTP API | Not callable through HTTP. |
| Browser-agent interface | run_current_tool |

### Implementation notes

Estimate the mass of a uniform hollow round section. Use measured diameters, not a nominal pipe size. Coatings, fittings and pipe contents are excluded. Changing units keeps the entered numbers. All calculations stay on your device. These estimates do not establish structural safety or code compliance.

### Browser-agent workflow

1. Open the human page in a browser that supports WebMCP.
2. Discover the interface exposed by that page; use its actual schema.
3. Select files on the page first when the tool requires files.
4. Call `run_current_tool` with valid input and settings.
5. Inspect the returned result or error and the displayed output. Retrieve files from the displayed download links.

Calls do not automatically copy or download results. Browser permissions still apply. Interface availability alone is not proof of successful execution.

### Planning specification

Uniform concentric hollow round sections and up to 10,000 identical pieces. No nominal-size, pipe-schedule or material-grade lookup. Nonpositive inner diameter and walls at least half the outside diameter are rejected.

This describes intended requirements. Use the implementation notes, interface schema and observed output to determine current support.

### How to use Pipe weight calculator

1. Enter measured outside diameter and wall thickness or inside diameter.
2. Choose length, quantity and the material's density with units.
3. Review mass per metre and total mass, then download the report.

## Measure the hollow section

Enter outside diameter and either wall thickness or inside diameter. These are geometric measurements, not a nominal pipe size or schedule. The inside diameter must be smaller than the outside diameter and greater than zero. A uniform concentric wall is assumed.

### Use density for the actual material

The starting density is an editable example. Replace it with the density from the specific material data. The calculator accepts kg/m³, g/cm³ or lb/ft³ and converts the dimensions consistently before calculating mass. Coatings, threads, fittings and pipe contents are excluded.

### Understand the result

The material cross-section is π × (outside diameter² − inside diameter²) ÷ 4. Multiply it by length for volume, then by density for mass. A 100 mm outside diameter tube with a 5 mm wall, 2 metre length and 7,850 kg/m³ density has a nominal mass of approximately 23.4284 kg.

### Download the mass calculation

Save CSV, text or JSON results with inside diameter, cross-section and the assumptions used. The result is mass in kilograms or pounds, rather than weight force. It is not a pressure rating, grade certification or structural design.
